§ 01Why It Backfires

The interview rejection is the better outcome.

The argument against AI cheating in interviews is not primarily ethical — it's practical. The interview exists to verify you can do the job. Bypassing the verification doesn't change the job.

§ 05The Answer Framework

A reliable structure for every technical question.

The reason many candidates reach for AI assistance during interviews is that they don't have a consistent mental structure for building answers under pressure. With a reliable framework, you don't need one.

For technical questions, use this five-step structure:

1. State your approach first. "I'd solve this with a sliding window because..." — give the shape of the solution before the details.

2. Explain the key tradeoff or constraint. Why this approach vs. the obvious alternative?

3. Walk through the mechanics with specificity. Not pseudocode — the reasoning steps that demonstrate understanding.

4. Name the complexity, edge cases, and failure modes before the interviewer has to ask.

5. State what you'd do differently at scale. If the problem is time-bounded or in production, how does the answer change?

For behavioral questions: Situation (brief context) → Task (what you were responsible for) → Action (specifically what you did — "I," not "we") → Result (quantified). The most common failure modes are too much Situation, too little Action, and a Result with no number attached.

Practice these structures until they're automatic. When a follow-up question comes in the real interview, you have enough structure to answer from your own memory — not from a whispered suggestion.
